This morning, Odin had a pretty full nappy which left him feeling a little crankier than usual. My first step is to nurse, nurse, nurse. That didn't work so I sleepily took his diaper off to change him and he rolled right over and fell asleep. Just like this. 

I'm glad he notices when he's wet. I remember when we chose to cloth diaper, one of the reasons was this. The ability to feel the wetness encourages them to want to potty train faster. He's only just turned one and I'm not expecting it to happen anytime soon but I can see it in the future. What are your experiences with potty training and cloth diapers?

Cloth Diapers!

Oh boy, oh boy. This is going to be quite the post:

I'm not sure when the idea of cloth diapering came into play, I sort of feel like it was always assumed that's what we would do. I'm pretty sure it was embedded somewhere in my mind. I can't remember "deciding" to cloth diaper or weighing out the benefits between cloth and disposables. Once I started a baby registry and tried to decide which cloth diapers to ask for, my head was spinning. Years ago I'm pretty sure your only option was a cloth prefold with a plastic cover (not so comfortable) and those scary huge safety pins, but now there is such a variety (prefold/flats with covers, pocket diapers, all-in-ones, hybrids, inserts, fitteds, contour, and a ton more combinations).

I'm very much a visual learner, so I came across a video on YouTube that was really basic but went through an overview of what each option was. This was what made everything so much easier! We ended up asking for a lot of basics at our baby shower. I asked for prefolds and flats, PUL covers, one fitted diaper, and a wool cover. We've just recently had to move from our smaller flats to the larger sized flats which we also received at the baby shower (we're so thankful)! I'm sure the smaller size would last longer for most any other baby but our little monster just hit 20 lbs at 5 months! We use the origami fold for our flats and it works really well (YouTube the "flat diaper origami fold"), and I'll fold these as they come out of the dryer so that they are ready to go when diaper changes happen. For overnights, we just double up two flats before folding and it works really well. Instead of pins, we now have Snappis, which come in a variety of colors and are much safer than pins!

I love the Thirsties covers as well as the Imse Vimse covers. I've also just ordered some Blueberry Coveralls that I'm really excited to try out. We haven't had any problems with any of the PUL diaper covers we've used but I can't say the same for the wool cover. I've tried and tried but I must be lanolizing or prepping incorrectly! I'll have to do some more research on that when I get the chance.

A friend of ours, Nicole, just sent us a FuzziBunz Pocket Diaper and I hate to say it, but I'm in love with the pocket diapers! Another friend gave us a few off-brand pocket diapers and I'm so thankful! (I'm sure Zak's thankful too, I was so excited about the FuzziBunz, I really wanted to buy more.) They're easier then diapers with covers (not by too much, but just enough)! But we already have 24 flats and about 12 prefolds and a ton of covers, so I don't think I'll be able to splurge and buy a ton of new pocket diapers.. But maybe I'll treat myself every now and then and try out a new one.

Here's Odin in the FuzziBunz pocket diaper. These diapers are also really trim which I love. I think if I do buy some more, they'd be perfect for outings. They're definitely PERFECT for overnights, especially if you double the liners!

I meant to write about our adventures in cloth diapering today and even started the post- but this mama prepped, washed, and folded cloth diapers all morning. I'm exhausted! Odin's definitely too big for the flats we were using so I busted out the larger sized flats which we received at the baby shower! Zak and I are going to order some new covers tomorrow (and I'm so excited).
