Babywearing Portrait giveaway!

As part of my Sling Diaries post on Joy, I drew a portrait of Odin wrapped in my Sakura Bloom sling. Everyone was so sweet when it was posted online and very supportive. I received an outstanding number of new friend requests on Facebook and more messages than I knew what to do with from beautiful mamas inquiring about the possibility of buying their own babywearing portrait. I was completely unprepared for this, but would love to draw portraits for you! To give myself a little time to buy more supplies and prepare myself for actually selling these, I'm going to do a little giveaway! I'll be giving away 2 portraits, so we'll have two winners!

I'm sorry mamas-to-be, I'd like to complete this giveaway this weekend and send them off next week (I'll host another giveaway later this year if this turns out to be a "thing"), so only mamas with a photo of yourself and your little one in your favorite sling or wrap, please. This giveaway is for a portrait of one babywearer and one baby (I may consider twins!). I may offer family style portraits later.

ANYWAY,
Here's the giveaway. You'll be able to enter up to four times!

For the first entry please comment on this blog post and tell me how babywearing has impacted your life. It could be as simple as "It helps me get the grocery shopping done!" or "It helps keep my little one happy."

For your second entry, please "follow" this blog and comment here saying you've done so!

For the third entry, hop on over to Facebook and "like" Dancey Pants Disco Babywearing Portraits. Leave a comment on this blog post saying you've done so.

The final entry will be to share this post on your Facebook or Instagram. Comment here with the FB link or tag the post on IG with the tag #dpdbabywearing and then comment on this post saying you've done so.

The only entries that will be considered will be the ones posted here so please make sure you come back to this post to comment separately for each entry. I will select the winner via Random Number Generator. The giveaway will end this Saturday, June 22, at 10 PM EST.

I don't normally do giveaways and I feel a little awkward posting this but I would really love to give two mamas a portrait before I decide to start selling them. Thank you everyone for your interest and support!  I was blown away by the feedback I received in the Babywearing Love and Support group and on Instagram. The babywearing community is so sweet! <3

UPDATE:
Thank you everyone for entering! I had to recount the number of comments (the replies and deleted comments were counted in the 165) so I apologize for the momentary delay.

Congratulations to:

Brytny and Ashlee; send me a photo of of you wearing your little one in your favorite carrier to michellemakesthings (at) gmail.com!

Thank you so much to everyone for entering. <3

  1. Babywearing has been such a huge part of my life for the last year. When DS was born, I was so weary about having children and that bond was hard to find. He was a very colicky baby, screaming from 6am-2am everyday. DH worked alot and I find it difficult to function at all. We bought a carrier to help me with getting housework done and to easy some hip/back pain from bouncy all day. I instantly loved it and it helped me get past the screaming baby that I was struggling with and find the little snuggle bug that he was. DS is now 16 months old and though I work FT, I still wear him daily and it's when he is most content. He has always been a mama's boy and I cherish that everyday and can thank babywearing for helping me develop such a loving bond with him.

  11. I have loved wearing all three of my babies, and honestly after with my second and third kids it has been a necessity as that's often the way any shopping or going anywhere gets done! It's great in so many ways, the closeness, the snuggles, the security, showing them the world from my perspective. I just love it. Xo

Babywearing has been a wonderful way to be close to my girls, and now that I have two, it is incredibly helpful to be able to have two hands and engage with my older daughter and still do fun things despite having another little one around.

  17. Babywearing helped me survive a deployment with a new baby. Days, weeks and months when it felt like I had no one, my Sakura Bloom came to the rescue every time. My sling was my rock, my best friend, my hugs and kisses, my cuddles at night, and my sunshine in the morning until my love returned from sea.

  25. Having Eulalie close to me in our sling reminds me to slow down and cherish these times. It feels wonderfully natural to have her attached to me in recognition of the fact that she was once tucked safely away inside. Wearing my baby makes the fact that she is growing at incredible speeds almost bearable.

  26. I love babywearing because it lets me keep my son close and cozy, and I can actually get stuff done!

  27. My 7 week old and I have had a very rocky start with breastfeeding. I have felt like giving up countless times but once I started wearing him in our sling, it gave me a new sense of freedom and drive. Drive to make it work for us, freedom to go where we need when we need. I am able to nurse him outside our house even while using the SNS because we baby wear. It has quite literally saved our nursing relationship and I'm forever grateful for that.

  51. My wife gave birth to our sweet daughter. Since I didn't go through birth or have a nursing relationship with her, wearing was how we bonded. I wore her when mommy was still too weak to get out of bed. I wore her for her naps. I still wear her while making breakfast and sometimes to put her to bed.

  52. The community surrounding babywearing has become almost family. When my baby was born prematurely these lovely ladies kept my spirits up when I needed it.
Babywearing also provides the chance for my sweet baby to stay close and secure to me in a womb-like environment.

It has been such a blessing because the ease and naturalness led me to attachment parenting. I'm loving every moment with my newest little guy, nursing, co-sleeping and wearing :) <3 babywearing transformed me and helped me grow into the best mother I can be.

  55. Using a sling has opened a whole world up to my daughter and I. We have no issues with access, no worries about space or buggy friendly transport. We can do what we want when we want to. I've made amazing friends who understand why at almost 2 Astrid is still in my bed, and travels on my back. I wouldn't change anything.

  56. Babywearing is just generally life changing - and to be honest I never thought it would impact so many areas of my life as it does - there's too many to list them all. I have loads of lovely stories from babywearing so I thought I would share one:

Ever since my son was little, singing has been the best way to soothe him, and now I seem to be in the habit of just singing as we walk. We were in our local supermarket and I was singing 'If you're happy and you know it...' on repeat, for a while, and when I was singing the 'clap your hands' (for the 10th time) all of a sudden my son clapped his hands in the wrap and beamed a big smile at me! He was delighted! And I was trying really hard not to cry with happiness!

We learn so much, both me and my son, from being so close together.

  57. I love babywearing - it keeps my little one happy, it keeps me happy, and it keeps my dog happy (baby, pup, and I go on dog walks together).

If it wasn't for babywearing I wouldn't still be breastfeeding. Also babywearing helped me become more confident as a mother and a woman :-)

  76. For me, babywearing has always been about connection. When my little one is wrapped snug and close to my body, nestled in to me, we are the calm in the midst of the chaos. From those fresh newborn days where it's so natural to move from womb to arms to wrap, to these busy toddler days when sometimes she just needs "up mama!" and to feel comforted and close even while I need to continue tending to my other children. I've been babywearing for 14 years now, through six children, and nothing has felt more natural and meant to be.

  79. Babywearing has helped me with everything in my life. It's helped me gain new friends (babywearing group and babywearing walks every Friday!), helped me gain confidence (I feel like an awesome mama when I can clean, cook AND take care of baby. Look, no hands!), and even helped me nurse in public (which I was a little shy to do at firs -- with my sling though we d it like a champ and no one even knows!). It's seriously changed my life.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Babywearing has helped me bond with my girls in everyway. From being able to kiss, nurse, and snuggle my new baby all day long...to being able to be the best mom possible to my 5 year old (even when taking care of her baby sister). She gets park play, bedtime stories, and homeschooling all with her little sister tucked in the wrap :)

Or when my boys want to go for a bike ride, I stick my 1 year old on my back and than I am free to help my 2 year old on his bike. These are just a few of many reasone why I love baby wearing :)

  103. babywearing both my children has brought me closer to them, it's allowed us to have fresh air and lovely walks at a time when they wouldn't settle in the pram, it's meant they could sleep comfortably at times when they were uncomfortable and crying, it's meant that I could prepare dinners in the afternoon (godsend!) and slinging Beatrix meant that I could still hang out with orson while settling her to sleep. babywearing in short, has meant I can still continue my daily routine. I just do not know what mama hood would be like without it! for me, it would have been horrible!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Both of my pregnancies have ended well before term and so babywearing began for me as therapy for me and my babes. A way to keep my tiny loves skin close to mine as they fought to grow and breathe. The sling recreated the womb they left far too soon and I credit babywearing greatly for our ability to help them thrive. Once survival had been secured of course the sling becomes more practical of use. I'm able to keep up with my 7 year old while keeping my nursling close to breast. We can live our lives and keep she can share in every experience with the perspective to engage.

  105. I have 4 boys and have never done babywearing till I had my last one. He is now 4 months old and we started babywearing when he was 4 weeks old. It has seriously helped in soooo many ways....during naptime, when we go shopping, cleaning the house, going to the park, picking my older boys up from school, and especially during baseball games. For the two or so hours we are there for a game I can keep Atticus happy and close to me the whole time....and nurse him too still while watching the game and chasing around my other boys.
