morning chiller

After a trip to the kitchen for a glass of water, this is how I found them upon my return.

He knows to be cute when there's a camera in his face!

le bookstore

Today we went to Books a Million. We don't have a bookstore this large on Nantucket and Zak was in need of some new books. Odin really loved every and any book he could get his hands on, I think he was really drawn to their magnificent paper taste and cardboard texture. We did end up buying him a couple small simple hard books for him to chew on. He really loves those!

Naptime Babies

Vinoy Park

We met up with a few of my friends from college for a baby hang out. Dash is a year old and Odin loved him. (Don't mind the upside down photos, Odin lovesss being upside-down!) We went to the Dali museum afterwards too, and Odin was surprisingly quite quiet.

Caligula

We have a new family member. She was born on Halloween and weighs about a half a pound. Her name is Caligula (Caleegleela if you happen to be a 3 year old girl). We went to a friend's who was giving away 5 little kittens and this is the one that caught our eye. We've been searching for a cat for awhile now and fate brought this little darling right into our laps. She's super cuddly and likes to chase her own tail. The last two nights she's slept on my legs or on my chest, purring away under my neck while I nursed Odin. Odin loves her too, which is a plus!

Christmas

It was nice to be back in Florida with my family for Christmas. This year was another awesome year and Christmas morning is always one of my favorites. I made Odin an awesome cloth book and make my little niece Kira a coloring book. We bought a giftcard for Jamie and gave her a baby-free night coupon. We also managed to find a lens for Kimberly's camera (which was her favorite gift, from her darling boyfriend). Zak got his (amazing) straight razor from Classic Shaving and he surprised me with a new lens for my camera. My mama and sisters also bought me some polaroid 300 film and a scanner which I am so grateful for, It's exactly what I needed. My mama loved all of her gifts and we spent the rest of the day playing together and watching movies.

Odin's cloth book took me days to make, but I'm really happy with the outcome! Here's a page by page:

Nana T for Christmas Eve

Every year we get together at my Nana's house for Christmas Eve. It's probably my favorite part about Christmas and it was one of the main reasons we planned to come down. Zak promised my Nana that he would be back for the holidays again this year and she held us to that promise (every time we skyped!). She bought him a little sailor outfit when he was a few months younger and since he's so big, he fit into it pretty early on. To surprise her, we had him wear it to our holiday get together. (And oh, did he look precious in it.)

My Nana's house has always been a place I loved. We lived there for a year or so when I was very young. I remember her pouring me a bowl of Rice Krispies every morning and slicing a banana to put on top. I remember sitting at her dining room table and reading the back of the cereal box while playing with the toy that we found inside. I have a million fond memories from my Nana's. It was my favorite place as a child and I really hope Odin loves it as much as I always have. She lives on a lake and we've always fed the ducks that swim around there. Zak even found some avocados in one of the trees in my Nana's back yard.

I unfortunately forgot my ring sling, so I had to improvise and used one of my Nana's handmade Mexican shawls, which worked nicely. I've also included a family photo of the entire fam!

From Hershey to Mills River

We left fairly early from Pennsylvania to head to Mills River, North Carolina. We have a friend there that we've been excited to visit for months! We tried to keep our breaks down to a minimum and took a long walk at a rest stop on the way. Tasha gave us a big boy car seat which made Odin's ride much more comfortable, so we didn't have to stop as much. We arrived in the evening (of course, I'm still terribly ill at this point) and were happy to be there. The three of us snuggled up in bed and were quick to pass out!

The next morning we went to breakfast at the local Waffle House. We don't have chain restaurants or stores on our island so it's nice to visit a place where everything's a little more convenient (sometimes! I do miss our island already!).

After a couple nights, we headed out again. We decided to drive overnight this time to make the drive a little more direct. Odin ended up sleeping through a majority of the drive which made everything much easier! Of course, Zak ended up sick (as soon as I began to feel better too...), so I ended up driving most of that final stretch. We were happy to make it to Florida early the next morning.
